Koh Samui

I spent two nights in Koh Samui at Peace Resort Koh Samui, located in Bophut. We stayed in a little cute bungalow.

Koh Samui was a bit of a disaster for us. Our flight from Chiang Mai was cancelled because of smoke from forest fires in Indonesia, thus creating poor visibility. The only option we had to get to Koh Samui that day was to buy additional flights from Chiang Mai to Phuket, and then Phuket to Koh Samui. Our flight from Phuket to Koh Samui was then delayed, so we literally spent the whole day sitting in the Burger King at Phuket Airport!

When we eventually made it to Koh Samui, it rained and rained! We were really looking forward to spending a couple of days relaxing on a Thai beach, but instead we spent the only full day we had there sitting underneath the shelter round by the hotel pool waiting for the rain to stop. In between rain showers, we did dash into the sea for a quick swim!

In the evening, the rain had started to clear so we took a walk along the beach to the night market in Bophut, and then jumped in a songthaew to Chaweng Beach. We grabbed some dinner along the beach to seek refuge from more rain, and then headed back to Peace Resort Koh Samui.

We love Koh Samui – when it’s not raining!

The next morning we took a ferry across to Koh Phangan.

There were so much I wanted to do in Koh Samui, but the rain really ruined our potential plans. If I were to ever go back, I’d love to visit Ang Thong National Marine Park, check out some waterfalls, see Wat Phra Yai (Big Buddha Temple) and the famous rocks Hin Ta and Hin Ya.

Next up: Koh Phangan
